The Lutz's Independence Day celebration took place on July 4th and has become a tradition where candidates have been running for Guv'na for about 20 years. Lutz shows its hometown pride with this holiday celebration themed "Saluting Lutz Volunteer Fire Department." In addition to the Guv'na festivities, the day included a bake contest, a 5K race, a one-mile fun run, a flag raising ceremony, cake decorating contest and barbecue benefitting the Lutz Volunteer Fire Association. Community support includes members of the Woman’s Club, the Little Women of Lutz, The Civil Air Patrol, Boy Scout Troop 12, Hillsborough County Parks/Rec, and so much more. Suzin Buzas Carr passed the Lutz Guv’na sash down to Dr Cindy Perkins, Chiropractor/Owner of Back In Health Wellness Center, who was able to raise over $9500 which will be distributed among local schools and organizations.

The Pasco County Professional Fire Fighters won the Silver Spatula Award at the MDA Summer Camp last week. Starting with an incredible chicken -n- waffles breakfast, Local #4420 dressed as Marvel Superheroes. “I had one heck of a time with my brothers and sisters serving for the little heroes themselves at MDA camp”, said firefighter Kevin Hager of Land O Lakes. “It was a pleasure and I'm ecstatic I was a part of it. The Muscular Dystrophy Association, known as MDA, is the world’s leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. Cypress Creek Ice and Sports Complex of Wesley Chapel is Unveiled to the Community

Cypress Creek Ice and Sports Complex of Wesley Chapel Developer Gordie Zimmermann impressed the crowd that included Pasco County Commissioners Jack Mariano, Kathryn Starkey, Pat Mulieri, Ted Schrader and Henry Wilson along with Florida State Senator Wilton Simpson, Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber President Jeff Novotny, Hockey team members from Wiregrass Ranch High School, Mitchell High School and representatives from the University of South Florida whose Hockey team is thinking about playing there in future. The crowd was electric with excitement as TV cameras from all of our regional media outlets trained their lenses on the unveiling of the design for Florida’s largest ice skating facility and the announcement of plans for a 120 room hotel adjacent to the ice rinks. Pasco County Commission Chairman Jack Mariano said the facility will provide recreational ice for local skaters and will attract competitors from all over the world. “Two rinks would have been great. Three rinks would have been phenomenal,” said Mariano. “But with four rinks and everything else you’re putting in here, everybody in the world is going to want to come here to play.”

Guva'na Hopefuls Kick Off Campaigns at Annual Debate

At the annual Guv’na debate May 10 at the Old Lutz School, the five hopefuls for the ceremonial title were doing whatever they could to raise cash: Selling cookies, brownies and even specialty popcorn. They had raffles and drawings. They even announced yard sales and other fundraisers scheduled for the next couple months. But unlike a traditional political campaign, the money raised doesn’t go toward buttons, bumper stickers or negative attack ads. It goes to local schools, civic organizations and other groups that benefit from the Lutz Guv’na event, which names the winner solely by how much money they raise for charity. Last year the candidates as a group raised nearly $12,000, most of that coming from the winner and current Guv’na, Suzin Carr. The debate was an opportunity for the candidates to kick off their campaigns with smiles, handshakes and outrageous promises if “elected” to office. One vowed to rid the area of pesky mosquitoes. Another promised a five-day weekend. And they participated in contests to show their ability to handle the job, such as watermelon eating and knitting...
