Absolutely Avalon Community Event at Avalon Park West

On April 12thAvalon Park West invited families from all over into their community to participate in a whole slew of free activities. During the day, kids had their choice of seven different bounce houses, pictures with the Easter Bunny, and interactive local community performances on stage. While kids played, adults got to mingle, grab some grub from local-favorite food trucks, and visit the array of nearby vendor tents. At dark, parents joined their kids in a glow-in-the-dark Easter Egg Hunt, and then, the grand finale- a premier Laser Light Show.

4th Annual Taste of Pasco at the Pasco Rotary Pavilion

Bellamy Brothers Concert for Pasco High School at the Reunion of the Decades

Pasco High School alumni’s Howard Bellamy (Class of 64) and David Bellamy (Class of 68) returned to their old stomping grounds to help raise over $75,000 for the school athletic department. Country music legends, the Bellamy Brothers, having performed all over the world didn’t have to travel far from their Darby homes to make it to W.F. Edwards Stadium and a couple thousand of their closest friends.

Easter Egg Hunt by Victorious Life Church at Cobb Theatres, The Grove at Wesley Chapel

Over 3,700 children and their families celebrated Holy Saturday with the good folks from Victorious Life Church for their annual Wesley Chapel Community Egg Hunt. The event was sponsored by The Grove at Wesley Chapel at the field adjacent to Cobb Theatres at 6333 Wesley Grove Boulevard in Wesley Chapel. There were three separate egg hunts (65,000 Easter Eggs) at 10am, 11am and 12pm and all activities and hunts were held in the open field directly in front of Cobb Theaters. There was a Special Needs egg hunt for about 30 kids at 9 am, located in Coconut Court (Center Court of The Grove). The Egg Hunt was free and they also had free Air Rides for the kids! Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the new Glory Days Grill in the location previously occupied by Lee Roy Selmon’s off Bruce B. Downs Blvd. at 17808 Doña Michelle Dr. (just north of I-75). Although the weather did not cooperate there was great excitement as the first-ever Glory Days to open in Florida welcomed guest for the first time. The 220-seat restaurant, with additional seating for 50 more outside on a covered patio, has plenty of TVs, great food, sports grill and a fan friendly bar area. There is something for everyone on the menu and the prices are very resonable.

Pasco's County Prescription Drug Deaths Cut in Half in Last 4 Years

The District Six Medical Examiner’s Office recently released drug-related death statistics for Pasco County, and the numbers reveal that deaths from prescription pill abuse continue their downward trend.  The number of prescription drug deaths dropped to 63 in Pasco County in 2013, down from a high of 142 prescription drug deaths in 2010. Factoring in the deaths from a combination of both prescription drugs and illicit drugs and the numbers are 153 in 2010 and 73 in 2013. Sheriff Chris Nocco credits several factors for the continuing downward trend, and states that while the numbers are promising, they are still too high.

Pasco-Hernando State College officially dedicated the new Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch

By Laura Kinsler of the Tribune Staff.  As officials from Pasco-Hernando State College officially dedicated the new Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch, math professor Sarah Fede invited the hundreds of guests at the ceremony to stick around for a while and marvel at the “exquisitely beautiful” campus. “I hope you guys actually got a chance to see the views,” she said. “It is absolutely beautiful — the sunsets we get from our offices, from the classrooms. We had to actually take time in one of my classes to just have sunset appreciation.” The seven-story college built on its own parking deck is an urban campus in a pastoral setting. Everyone in the room knew the onetime cattle ranch was in the midst of a transformation, and the cattle grazing on pastures across State Road 56 eventually would be replaced by thousands of office workers, homeowners and athletes.

Belk's Department Store held their semiannual KidFest fashion show at their 2111 Collier Parkway Land O Lakes location. Many children enjoyed the opportunity to have their child feel like a special star. The show was free and open to the public with snacks, entertainment and more and there was a 40% off all kids apparel. Belk is excited about the continued success of Kids Fest. As always, Kids Fest was kicked off with an in-store fashion show featuring clothing from the children's department and fun, kid-themed elements such as light refreshments, music, face painting and more.
