The West Pasco Republican Club gave Pasco County Republicans an opportunity to meet and greet the 2014 Republican candidates and to hear them speak about themselves and answer questions from the audience. It was intended to be an informal event and not a debate format. The West Pasco Republican Club were extremely grateful that the majority of the 2014 candidates kindly agreed to take time out of their hectic schedules and were willing to join or send their representatives for this event at Heritage Springs Golf & Country Club, located 11345 Robert Trent Jones Parkway and enjoy their wonderful breakfast and become better acquainted with the candidates as well.

174 Participants formed 19 Teams and raised $26,916 twords their goal of $53,000. The top 3 teams were Gateway Chiropractic – Jade; Wilderness Wildcats - Silver and Pasco Sheriff's Office "The Eraser's" – Silver.

On Saturday, May 17, Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) hosted his Annual Veterans Resource Fair, which provided important information and services for Veterans and their families in the 12^th Congressional District. “Veterans have given so much to our country, and it is only right that we give back,” Bilirakis said. “I am proud to host our 8^th Annual Veterans Resource Fair. This event will be a one stop shop for our Veterans, providing them with access to a variety of available services and resources. These services include, medical care, assistance with their disability claims or education benefits, and employment information.” Following the resource fair, the Congressman invited everyone to join him for a short patriotic program, hosted by Frank Wuco, Commander, USN, (Ret.), which also included a performance by the East Lake High School Band & Chorus. Additionally, Tech Sergeant Brad Clark of the 927th Air Medical Staging Squadron – MacDill Air Force Base, will be singing our National Anthem and God Bless America. The fair will be held at East Lake High School, at 1300 Silver Eagle Drive in Tarpon Springs.

Marshalls held a Ribbon Cutting for their latest store located in Land O’Lakes, FLA. Marshalls join Ross and Bealls Outlet and a variety of other businesses at the newly renovated Village Lakes Shopping Plaza near the corner of Land O’Lakes Blvd and State Route 54, on SR 54. Promising to becoming involved in the Central Pasco community, Marshalls donated a check for $5,000 to Feeding America Tampa Bay. At the annual Guv’na debate May 10 at the Old Lutz School, the five hopefuls for the ceremonial title were doing whatever they could to raise cash: Selling cookies, brownies and even specialty popcorn. They had raffles and drawings. They even announced yard sales and other fundraisers scheduled for the next couple months. But unlike a traditional political campaign, the money raised doesn’t go toward buttons, bumper stickers or negative attack ads. It goes to local schools, civic organizations and other groups that benefit from the Lutz Guv’na event, which names the winner solely by how much money they raise for charity. Last year the candidates as a group raised nearly $12,000, most of that coming from the winner and current Guv’na, Suzin Carr. The debate was an opportunity for the candidates to kick off their campaigns with smiles, handshakes and outrageous promises if “elected” to office. One vowed to rid the area of pesky mosquitoes. Another promised a five-day weekend. And they participated in contests to show their ability to handle the job, such as watermelon eating and knitting...

Koehler Macklus from J.W. Mitchell High School competed against two other rival High Schools from Pasco County on Thursday night at Rasmussen College during their 1st annual High School Challenge. The Junior beat out the other two Senior opponents during the Final Challenge & took home a $500 school donation along with a $100 Visa gift card. Koehler quickly came back from a 2,400 point deficient in the last round surprising not only his competitors, but the viewing audience as well. In addition, Koehler was also the only player who correctly answered the final challenge question. Rasmussen College hopes to kick off their 2nd annual High School Challenge next Spring by bringing back the returning champion to defeat his title. Congratulations to Koehler & J.W. Mitchell High School on their win over Sunlake High School & Wesley Chapel High School.
