Tuesday, Feb 14, 2012 | On Target Page: Wesley Chapel, Wesley Chapel Community Events

Wesley Chapel- The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs (GFWC) New Tampa Junior Woman’s Club is competing in the Precision Kia of Wesley Chapel’s “Pay It Forward” event on Facebook in support of the project Books for Troops. As of today they are in the lead with 515 votes but they need your help to win.

“Precision Kia is selecting up to five local charities each month and letting their Facebook fans vote on which charity they want to receive a $1,000 donation. Fans get to vote as much as they want but only one vote per day per fan will count. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month will be given the donation” said Leann Rowe owner of Precision Kia of Wesley Chapel. Anyone with a facebook account can vote once a day. Just visit the facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/precisionkiaofwesleychapel then click the like button. You will then be able to place your vote by posting on their wall “Books for Troops” everyday till the end of February.

Patricia Murphy, Project Chairman of Books for Troops “I am so excited! I can’t believe we have pulled ahead of these other amazing charities with huge donor bases...That’s why getting our message out is so important. The support of the community has been amazing. I can’t thank all of our supporters enough.”

The Books for Troops project began October 1st with a goal of collecting 1000 books to ship to deployed troops. As of today the project has collected 6356 paperback books for troops. “The New Tampa Junior Woman’s Club budgeted $1000 to cover the shipping costs for the project. Together with an in-kind donation of postage from a local business we have packed and shipped 5000 books. This donation from Wesley Chapel Kia would allow us to ship an additional 2500 books to our troops overseas,” said Murphy.

“Many people have asked if I would do this year round. I would love to if I had the funding and volunteer support,” said Murphy. “The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs has been very supportive and I have had requests from clubs in Sebastion and Tallahassee ask how they can start a project. It has been so rewarding,” Murphy said “also the support of the President of the Florida Federation of Woman’s Clubs, Teddy
