PASCO COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES CLOSURE DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Schools to close Tuesday January 9,2024 and will reopen on Wednesday January 10, 2024

Pasco County, FL – In response to the latest weather forecasts and consulting with Pasco County Emergency Management about tomorrow's projected severe weather conditions, including dangerously high winds, the Pasco County School District has made the decision to close all schools and district offices tomorrow, January 9, 2024, to keep students safe.

This tough decision is made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community members returning home from class tomorrow afternoon. The safety of our students is our top priority, and the forecasted high winds pose a significant risk, especially for bus transportation. These conditions are not conducive to the safe operation of our school buses, as high winds can severely impact their stability and overall road safety.

We understand that this decision may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff. All school activities, including extracurricular events, are also canceled for tomorrow. Because we are closing tomorrow, we, as a district, will be evaluating the impact of the loss of instructional time and how this time will be made up to meet state requirements.

We'd like to suggest that families stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this severe weather event. The district will keep an eye on the situation closely and provide updates as needed.

We anticipate resuming normal operations on Wednesday, January 10, 2023. Wednesday was scheduled as an early release day. Due to the closure, Wednesday will be a full day of instruction.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time. Please stay safe and take all necessary precautions during this severe weather event.
