Entrepreneurs who turn to politics having conquered — or at least subdued — their portion of the private sector have so multiplied that their backgrounds are scarcely newsworthy.

It's gotten to the point you almost can't swing a dead pundit without whacking some CEO eager to unleash business sensibilities (Mitt Romney) and market-driven reforms (Herman Cain) on the government Leviathan. This is all well and good, up to a point. Luckily, the public's hubris antenna is fairly sensitive to differentiating serious campaigners from carpetbaggers using politics to juice up their brand.
All of which is to say that, while Wilton Simpson reigns as the Donald Trump of regional egg farmers, that's where the similarities end. Meeting with supporters and the curious at the Seven Oaks clubhouse Monday night, Simpson demonstrated himself as neither dabbler nor calculating self-promoter. Instead, at 45, he is a longtime community volunteer and self-taught student of public policymaking who senses preparation has at last met opportunity.
Last spring, after weeks of hinting at plans to enter the arena, Simpson — a Ronald Reagan-inspired Republican in temperament and philosophy — filed to seek the District 11 state Senate seat of Mike Fasano, prevented by term limits from seeking re-election.
Simpson seemed like a sprinter finally called to the starting line, relieved that the wait was over but edgy to explode from the blocks. How long has he wanted to do this? "Since he was 10," Kathryn Simpson, the candidate's sanguine wife, said.Read more at LINK...
