New Birth Church New Port Richey Host Backpack Blastoff Give Away

Tuesday, Sep 01, 2020 | On Target Page: Greater Pasco County, Trinity & West Pasco
By Melinda Velez. Earlier this month, 114 families were blessed with backpacks filled with school supplies and where over 300 backpacks were distributed within 2.5 hours! New Birth Church New Port Richey wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community of business partnerships for their generous support of their BACKPACK Blast-off! Give Away. New Birth’s initial planning efforts, focused on an in-person community event, however, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and mandatory mask requirements in Pasco County, our church team decided to plan a Backpack Giveaway DRIVE-THRU experience! “We truly appreciate our business sponsors for being a part of this event and coming along side us. We understand that these are challenging times for many local families.” Explained Pastor, Jonathan Hidalgo. “We were not going to give up on being a blessing to others so we came up with a creative drive-thru experience.” Stated Hidalgo. New Birth Church connected with families in the safety of their cars with joyful greetings, beverages, fun décor, costume characters, cotton candy and popcorn too! As families entered, they were kindly directed to the special route on the church parking grounds where they registered, drove by fun stations and picked up their backpacks filled with school supplies on their way out. “We want our community to know that New Birth Church is a place of HOPE.” continued Pastor Hidalgo. “This is about our church members being the hands and feet of Jesus outside of the four walls and no pandemic is going to stop that” expanded Hidalgo. There were also prayer parking spots for those families in need of a prayer of encouragement. New Birth Church distributes free groceries on a weekly basis in partnership with cooked meals from Kickin Wingz via a grant from United Way of Pasco County. New Birth also partners with Hopeville Ministry who supplies the free groceries. The food pantry ministry is opened every Tuesday from 1p – 4p.
