Special Olympics Athletes Leadership team learn to advocate for themselves and other Special Olympic athletes

Special Olympics Leadership team. Athletes who want to advocate for themselves and other Special Olympic athletes. They learn to do public speeches, computer and money skills, promote Programs offered by Special Olympics and have the opportunity to become coaches. We have 15-17 athletes in our program and beyond the above they help with fundraisers and they even adopted a road in New Port Richey as their effort to give back to the community! Special Olympics Florida provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, at no cost to the athlete or their caregiver as a means to achieve physical fitness, self-esteem and the life skills necessary to be productive, respected and contributing members of their communities.
The folks at “Learning your Function” LYF Pasco wish to give a very big thank you to their friends from the Special Olympics Leadership Program for coming out to teach them all about the summer sports available to their athletes! LYF maximizes a quality of life approach that fulfills individuals with disabilities need for life skills attainment, independent choice making and dedicated supervision and provides a safe environment, daily living skills, community-based instruction and entertaining educational opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Advocacy services for future clients are offered to parents of individuals with disabilities as well as training in various educational topics.
