State Committeeman Bill Bunting, a staunch Republican for four decades and a tireless pro-Second Amendment activist, passes away at 79 by Randy Evans, Chairman

As a member of the State Executive Committee under the Republican Party of Florida, Bill served as Chairman of the Second Amendment Committee and served on the Grievance Committee.

For those who knew him, few could argue he was the hardest working, non-salaried, elected official in Florida. Bill didn’t talk about what he was going to do, he was a true leader who lead from the front. He was a “doer,” and had no time for “do-littles” in politics.

Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump, Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Governors Jeb Bush and Ron DeSantis, Attorneys General Pam Bondi and Ashley Moody, CFOs Jeff Atwater and Jimmy Patronis, Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam, Senate President Wilton Simpson, Senators Tom Lee and Ed Hooper, State Representatives Randy Maggard, Adrian Zika and Amber Mariano, along with nearly every elected official in Pasco County, are just a few of the names that were elected in part to the leadership and many efforts of Bill Bunting. In addition, Bill assisted REC leaders in surrounding counties and across the state. He pushed Floridians to obtain their Concealed Weapons Licenses and taught classes as an NRA Instructor; one of his last efforts was a petition drive for 50-State Reciprocity.

Beyond a doubt, Bill Bunting raised in the neighborhood of over a million dollars for candidates and the Republican Party of Pasco over the years. Bill was instrumental in championing the Republican Party’s message, whether through TV, radio, billboards, sign waving, phone calls, Town Hall meetings or County Commission meetings.

He organized and lead the Republican Party office volunteers to address by-hand the invitations to fundraisers and make phone calls. As any good leader does, Bill took care of his volunteers, buying their lunch, organizing bus trips to Tallahassee and limited access events with elected officials.

In closing, their will never be another Bill Bunting. A great American. A great Republican. A great leader. The Republican Party has truly lost a warhorse - we all have lost a friend.

Rest In Peace my friend.

Randy Evans, Chairman Republican Party of Pasco County
