Candlelight Vigil, Sunrise of Pasco, the General Federation of Woman's Clubs' Dade City Woman's Club

Kelly Sinn, CEO at Sunrise of Pasco addresses some very special individuals at The General Federation of Woman's Clubs' Dade City Woman's Club: Every year we at Sunrise of Pasco, like to shine a spotlight on some very special individuals. Those who give of themselves regardless of compensation or recognition and who always go above and beyond to support and encourage survivors in any way possible. This year is no exception.

Megan Hayes is a victim advocate for New Port Richey Police Department. We would like to recognize Megan for all of her hard work and dedication to the survivors she comes into contact with. Megan demonstrates empathy, compassion and determination and everything she does. She creatively works with survivors to ensure they receive services and support that they need and goes out of her way for the well-being of those she comes in contact with. Additionally, Megan is the Chair of the Pasco County Domestic Violence Task Force, which is a vital role to enhance our community's response to domestic violence. It is because of this and so much more that we would like to say thank you to Megan on behalf the sunrise and all the survivors she believes in and supports.

Our next recognize goes to Officer Friendly, Jessica Ziegler Jessica who has been a phenomenal asset in connection and collaboration with survivors of violence in rural communities. Jessica illustrates extraordinary commitment to the community by going above and beyond to assist support and empower anyone in need of services. She is contacted by daily by survivors, staff, students and parents, who call upon her experience, knowledge and guidance. This is why Jessica is known as the “go to” in our community. She also offers her expertise and planning skills to navigate community events, resources and partnerships. Even though this is not required of her, she does each task so willingly and cheerfully. Her quick wit, attention to detail and loyalty is heavily recognized. She is a true champion with a tireless commitment to support the command the and survivors. Thank you, Jessica.

Next, we like to recognize Judy Szink. Julie is a Parent Educator at Dawning Family Services For three years Judy has provided parenting support group to the women in our shelter every Thursday. The group Judy facilitates is one of the most attended by shelter participants. Judy is so warm and compassionate and goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed and included. Judy not only helps the women in shelter learn important techniques and strategies for caring and nurturing their children but also reminds them of the importance of caring for themselves. She provides the women with tools that they can take away from each group in order to put into practice what they have learned. She creates a safe space for women in shelter to be supportive of each other and to share helpful suggestions with one another based upon the parenting experiences. We are so thankful for Judy and all the support and education she provides.

And finally, I would like to recognize to Pasco Junior Woman's Club who has supported sunrise and survivors for many years through a variety of projects including the children's table at the vigil for the past 4 years. For the women and children in our shelter, Pasco Junior Women's club has held an annual Mother's Day event raising money and bought kitchen appliances hosted a clothing exchanges planted a Butterfly Garden at the shelter and donated time and money in a continued effort to support survivors.
