Anclote Key State Park Open House and Lighthouse Climb

Wednesday, Feb 20, 2019 | On Target Page: Trinity & West Pasco, Trinity & West Pasco Area Community Events
Anclote Key State Park opened the Lighthouse to the public earlier this month to allow visitors to climb the 127 steep steps all the way to the top. Open to all ages, the climb is worth the trip and was the view worth it! There was also a table set up with memorabilia for sale, volunteer information, Memorial Brick order forms, bean bag toss, and beautiful scenery. April 20th is the next Lighthouse Open House and can only be reached by boat, so be sure to plan ahead or contact Ferry companies to confirm they are operating that day. Anclote Key State Park is actually a chain of islands located in the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Anclote River. It consists of Anclote Key, Three Rooker Island, and the North Sandbar. Anclote Key is 440-acre nature preserve. A historic lighthouse was erected on Anclote Key as an aid to navigation in 1886. After falling into disrepair, the “Friends of Anclote Key State Park and Lighthouse” group recommissioned the lighthouse in 1995. The old lighthouse compound has been partially restored for historic purposes with interpretive signage. The light was relit in September 2003.
