United Way of Pasco County’s 2018 Stuff the Bus delivers school supplies to help our Pasco County teachers

Many Pasco County families are living on limited budgets where the choice is putting food on the table verses buying school supplies. This does not include the purchase of new clothes and shoes. Children suffer the consequences of not having the basic classroom necessities to learn from day one. Pasco County teachers, who are dedicated to the success of their students, step in to help make that difference by purchasing school supplies out of their own pockets so that no child is embarrassed about not having the supplies in class. In response to these challenges, United Way of Pasco in partnership with the Pasco County School District conducted its 8th annual Stuff The Bus For Teachers with hundreds of volunteers and generous community donors who showed up to help!

“The generosity of our community has been humbling and overwhelming!” states Alice Delgardo, President and CEO of United Way of Pasco County. “Our partnership with the Pasco County School district allows us to be able show greater impact by assisting the schools that need the most help.”

Over 300 volunteers joined United Way of Pasco County between August 3 – August 6 collecting school supplies at participating Walmart Supercenter stores and culminating Monday, August 6 where collected supplies were sorted and packed at the Mike Fasano Hurricane Shelter in Hudson. An estimated $ 3 0 ,000 worth of supplies were donated by shoppers and local businesses which in turn helped to support over 50 Pasco County schools with the most need. All school supplies collected remains in the community to benefit our local students in Pasco County. Special thanks to community partners Walmart, The Pasco County School District, as well as generous sponsors, Bank of America and Community Service Council. We also extend our sincere appreciation to numerous local businesses and community leaders.
