Metro Development Group Begins to Fill Over 7 Acres of First Crystal Lagoon in the U.S. Becomes a Reality at Epperson in Wesley Chapel Featuring Sandy Beaches
A Grand Opening Celebration is being planned for early spring 2018 where Olympic Swimmer and 23-time Gold-Medalist Michael Phelps is scheduled to appear. Michael Phelps recently signed on with Crystal Lagoons as their Global Ambassador to bring swimming and water sports to more communities around the world via Crystal Lagoons’ industry-leading technology. Details and a date for the Grand Opening Celebration are forthcoming.
Homeowners have begun to move into Epperson, which will have approximately 2,000 homes upon completion, and will be the first residential community in the Connected City. The centerpiece of the resort-style community will be the 7.5 acre tropical lagoon that will provide families hours of entertainment, relaxation and beachfront views right in their backyard.
Future residents will have access to more than seven acres of crystal-clear waters and all the aquatic activities this recreational amenity has to offer, such as swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and the opportunity to sail small boats. The much-anticipated lagoon will be surrounded by Caribbean-style beaches and cabanas, a waterslide, an entertainment plaza, private cabanas, yoga lawn and an area for special events.
The water that will be purchased from Pasco County to fill the lagoon will be done in a safe, responsible and environmentally friendly manner. After it is filled, it is estimated that the Metro Lagoon will use 50 times less water than a park of the same size and 30 times less water than an 18-hole golf course. The Metro Lagoon will be maintained by Crystal Lagoon’s sustainable, ultra-sonic technology that uses sensors to maintain the quality of the crystal-clear water. Crystal Lagoons technology uses 100 times less chemicals than a traditional swimming pool and uses up to 50 times less energy than conventional pool filtration systems.
“We are looking forward to bringing this exciting amenity to the U.S. for the first time ever,†said Greg Singleton, President, Metro Development Group. “Filling the Lagoon at Epperson is the first step as Metro continues to raise the bar and bring cutting-edge technologies to our other communities, including ULTRAFi.â€
As part of the Connected City, a plan that spans 50 years, the Metro Lagoon will be part of the first “Smart Gigabit Community†in the country to be built from the ground up. Metro Places exclusive technology, ULTRAFi, provides the fastest internet and WiFi speeds in the nation, including throughout the homes, the community and the lagoon.
Upon completion, the Connected City will have 37,000 homes and more than 12 million square feet of commercial space, including office, retail and state-of-the-art education, medical and technology facilities. Through partnerships with Saint Leo University and with Florida Hospital and Tampa General Hospital, the Connected City will be home to the most advanced hospitals, schools and research facilities in the world. Plans for a wellness district include an innovation center and medical hospital complete with med-spa and a health and performance institute.
Metro Development Group will soon break ground on a second Lagoon at the Metro Places community Southshore Bay, located in South Hillsborough County in early 2018. A third Metro Lagoon will be in the Connected City in a community called Mirada and a fourth lagoon will be in Fort Myers in a community called Brightwater.
