BY GEOFF FOX TBO.com Tribune Staff [read more at TBO com ] Shortly after longtime Pasco County Property Appraiser Mike Wells Sr. said Monday he will retire when his term expires next year, county commission Chairman Ted Schrader said he will seek the job. A former county commissioner, Wells, 68, said recent knee-replacement surgeries
influenced his decision. He had filed papers to seek re-election in January and had no opposition as of Monday. Schrader said he plans to file paperwork to run for the office “immediately.†A Republican, Wells has held the job since he was elected to his first four-year term in 1996. He ran without opposition in 2000, 2004 and 2008. In 2012 he was opposed in the primary and general election, but cruised to victory.
