The Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel Presents 2023 9/11 Memorial Local Heroes Awards

The Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel presented the “2023 9/11 Memorial Local Heroes Awards”, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, located at the Tampa Premium Outlets, 2300 Grand Cypress Dr., Lutz, FL, 33559.

The 9/11 Memorial was dedicated in 2019 as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice and heroism of that day. This year, the following local heroes were recognized with a permanent plaque on our Wall of Heroes:

• Trooper Steve Turner Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Turner was shot and gravely wounded while courageously apprehending a fleeing felon. Despite sustaining potentially career-ending injuries, he remarkably returned to full duty within a few months. Trooper Turner's unwavering dedication to serving the residents of the State of Florida makes him a worthy recipient of this distinguished honor.

• Firefighter Jason Tucker, Pasco County Fire Rescue In 2021, Firefighter Tucker was diagnosed with brain cancer, determined to be Line of Duty related due to his exposure to toxic materials throughout his career. Sadly, on April 23, 2023, Firefighter Tucker succumbed to his illness and was laid to rest with full department honors. His steadfast commitment to serving the residents of Pasco County during his career makes him a deserving recipient of this distinguished honor.
