Habitat ReStore Celebrates 4th Anniversary Repurpose, Recycle, Lighten the Landfill. The East Pasco Habitat ReStore contributes to making East Pasco County more environmentally friendly. The store picks up donations that may otherwise have gone to the “dump” and encourages the repurposing of all the materials that come through their doors. It’s hard to believe the Habitat ReStore has been open in Dade City for 4 years in August. The reception to the resale products has been phenomenal and sales, as well as donations, have been at a steady increase since the opening in 2005. Building materials, furniture, books, glassware, lighting, plumbing supplies and a myriad of other items are always available for purchase at terrific prices. Habitat’s Restore is a great place to find a bargain and do a good deed at the same time. Revenue generated from the ReStore sales helps East Pasco Habitat for Humanity provide affordable housing opportunities to struggling families. The ReStore sales funded an entire home in 2008 and if sales continue to climb, another home will be in the near future. The anniversary celebration will be highlighted with a storewide sale from August 12th – 15th and there will be bargains galore! The store merchandise changes daily and it is exciting to watch the truck unload the donation goodies….. It is amazing what you can find in the ReStore. Come to the store at 14940 Citrus Country Drive (in the Dade City Business Center) for great savings AND have a cupcake with the staff. Volunteers to work in the store are always needed—stop in and check it out! Summer Hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. 352-523-2020 Happy Anniversary East Pasco Habitat for Humanity ReStore! Last year our “Ride for Humanity” brought 108 riders and this year we are planning for more. This year we are combining it with a Florida BBQ competition. We have competitors from all over the State of Florida and other states, plus riders as far away as Pennsylvania. It will be held at the Dade City Business Center from 10:00am – 7:00pm. There will be music all day, a kiddie corner, clowns, old tyme gams classic cars, arts & craft vendors. East Pasco Habitat for Humanity is committed to providing affordable housing opportunities to deserving families in need. Habitat challenges individuals, churches, foundations and other groups to join in a partnership with low-income families to change the conditions in which they live. The key word is partnership, for this is not just another housing program. Instead, those who need the homes work together with many volunteers to build simple, decent houses that cost less because they are sold with a no-interest, no-profit mortgage. Your participation in this event benefits our cause. ********************************************* Scroll Down ********************************************* Hicks, Reaves, Steier families enjoy new Habitat for Humanity homes Vanessa Hicks family Members of the Hicks family look on Saturday, June 7, as County Commissioner Jack Mariano, right, points at the new East Pasco Habitat for Humanity home the family will be occupying in Dade City. Special from the Laker Staff Writer Joe Potter
East Pasco Habitat for Humanity homes number 53, 54 and 55 were dedicated Saturday, June 7, on North Avenue in Dade City. They provide new opportunities for the families of Vanessa Hicks, Marsha Reaves and Jolyn Steier. East Pasco Habitat is affiliated with Americus, Ga.-based Habitat for Humanity International. Its mission is to eradicate poverty housing in the communities of Dade City, Zephyrhills, Wesley Chapel and Lacoochee. Qualifying families do not make cash down payments on their homes that are financed through interest-free mortgages. Rather, they perform “sweat equity” work on their own home, on another person’s home, or by volunteering at a store East Pasco Habitat operates at the Dade City Business Center. Vanessa Hicks and her three children, Troy, Warren and Nashaw had been waiting since last summer for the dedication of their new home at 37013 North Ave. Vanessa was accepted into the Habitat program in 2007 and started her “sweat equity” hours shortly

Can you keep a secret? That was what had to happen in the past 2 months while the Warrick Dunn Foundation prepared for the Bonilla Family’s Habitat Home Dedication in Dade City .
Christine Bonilla was secretly nominated in March by East Pasco Habitat for Humanity to receive Warrick Dunn’s “Home for the Holidays” grant and Habitat was notified she was selected in mid-April. There was one stipulation—Christine Bonilla was not to know she was getting this grant. Little “white lies” had to be told in order to glean information about the family’s likes and dislikes to furnish the home for them. The last week before the Dedication had to be “hands off” for Christine Bonilla--she was told a pesticide was sprayed in and around the house and the family couldn’t go near it—it worked and the Dunn Foundation volunteers worked their magic on the home.
Warrick Dunn has given a “hand up” to 75 single moms since his foundation was created. The foundation presents a check to the homeowner to use toward their down payment and they completely furnish the entire house including groceries, washer, dryer, detergent, cleaning supplies, wall décor, linens and outside tools-including a lawn mower!
It was truly a surprise for the Bonilla Family when they arrived at 9 a.m. to “supposedly” take part in a film about the Habitat building program. What a great day for the Bonilla Family with many kudos to Warrick Dunn and his generosity. Yes, Christine, this is Christmas in May!
