| Awarded to Morgan Crescent |

| Jim Kranendonk, his wife Mary Jane and their sons John and Robert Kranendonk announced the winner of this year’s Thomas James Kranendonk Memorial Scholar Athlete Award, Miss Morgan Crescent ( also pictured, Max Ramos and Henry G. "Chip" Wichmanowski Executive Director of the Pasco Educational Foundation). Morgan played softball, volleyball and soccer at Land O’Lakes High school Emmett Harris earned a scholarship at Eckerd College. Her winning essay describes how team sports have helped her make friendships, to learn self-discipline that she also applied to her schoolwork. She knew Thomas from their time on the lake and knowing other friends that have passed much too soon have taught her not to take life for granted. “Life is a gift and you shouldn’t waste it on making poor choices” said Crescent. Mike Connor, owner of Beef o Brady's Wilderness Lareakes donated a portion of his sales from the event back to the Pasco Educational Foundation for Thomas' Scholarship. |

It wasn't the type of text message Land O' Lakes High girls basketball coach Laurie Tyszko hoped to get on a Friday night. Her two best players, Shantel Sweet and Simone Brown, notified Tyszko they both had come down with the stomach flu. That showed in the second half in Land O' Lakes' 61-49 loss to Leesburg in Saturday's Class 4A-Region 2 final. With the win, Leesburg advances to the state semifinals at The Lakeland Center…. | "Doc" teaches math and sponsors "Bodybuilders," a club at Land O'Lakes High School. After retiring from competition in 2000, when he moved here from Miami, Doc had amassed 52 trophies, 6 titles, 1 overall, and had been in FL muscle magazines dozens of times, and once in "Muscle & Fitness" (Feb. 1998, pp. 234, 236, & 238). Now 61, training and dieting are back in his regimen, with a "desparate attempt at coming back." "I need to lose more bodyfat," he said, while making a great distinction between losing weight and losing fat. "Muscle weighs more than fat. I don't want to lose muscle, but the metabolism for old geezers like myself slows so much that I have to give up some size to lose fat. That means no more 1000 calorie jumbo buttered popcorn cups at the movies!" |

LOL HS Cross Country State Runners-Lady Gators Place 12th on Their First Trip to Big Show, Boys Make Top Ten
The Land O' Lakes High School Girls Cross Country Team placed 12th on November 22 at the 63rd Annual State Meet. Going into the Florida Finals the Lady Gators were ranked 18th. They tied their season long rival Vanguard with 324 points. Jennifer Romero was the 6th runner for Land O' Lakes and she beat Vanguard's #6 by three places so the Lady Gators finally beat their rival who they tied at 100pts at the district meet on November 7, but on that day Vanguard #6 beat our #6 . Coach Keppel stated, "Alea Basulto and Renea Porsch stepped up with personal bests, they were difference makers today." Here is how Land O' Lakes finished individually at the Little Everglades Ranch, 18th Alyssa Brandt 19:25, 49th Renea Porsch 20:00, 68th Nikki Forcier 20:22, 131st Alea Basulto 21:38, 134th Morgan Keppel 21:42, 162nd Jennifer Romero 22:23, 168th Leah Stanton 22:40. The boys team had their best team effort at the state meet as they placed 7th out of 24 squads. The Gators we lead by senior Felix Soto with a time of 15:58. Soto was named to the 3A All-State Team in two years with his tenth place finish. Land O' Lakes was ranked 12th going into the final contest and the Gators were able to run their top five in under 17:23. At the beginning of the season, Keppel predicted, "If we can get five guys under 17:30 at the state meet then we'll finish in the top 10." Keppel added, "Zack Lonsway really stepped it up, he ran his best race of the season, he went from 17:38 to 17:15 and finished fourth on our team today. Our other top guys were within seconds of their PR. This course was a true cross country test, they beat the beast (the hills) today. The “Hawaii 5-0” from LOLHS returned following a once in a lifetime week long summer cheerleading camp in Oahu. These 5 Varsity Cheerleaders were nominated to attend Cheer-Hawaii to experience college prep cheerleading instruction from some of the best instructors nation-wide. This select group who will be seniors this fall are Kelsey Whitaker, Kayla Hensley, Savannah Campbell, Samantha Adamo and Ashley Johnson.
