ZH Moose 9928…The folks at the Zephyrhills Moose Family Center heard that Bob Williams needed help to cover the shipping cost that his group “Support the Troops” incurs sending packages to our troops overseas, they wanted to help. Mr. Robert Williams (white shirt) and his group sends out about 215 boxes each week to U.S. military units in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Kyrgyzstan. Zephyrhills Moose Family Center Administrator Gary Belyea (white hat) and many other volunteers designated Fridays, as a special “Red Letter Day” for the troops. Members of the group wear red shirts and portions of the proceeds of the Moose go to “Support the Troops” fund.

On a daily basis Williams will receive wish lists from the troops either via email or through their families or friends.  “Thanks to the efforts of the Zephyrhills Moose Family Center and their Red Friday campaign, we will do our best to fulfill those requests.  The basic items we take for granted here can make a real difference in the quality of life our service personnel experience when deployed in combat zones and remote locations” said Williams. The packages they send out contain a variety of items popular with the troops, including coffee, snack foods, batteries, DVD’s, and personal toiletries.  Some of these goods are donated by local businesses and organizations; others must be purchased to meet the need.  “We are delighted to work with any company or organization interested in having a drive to collect items to send to our troops or to raise funds for postage” said Williams.  Mr. Williams says that this is an on-going project therefore they must continue to seek the community’s help with the increasing postage expenses.  The cost to ship one box can range from $20 to $45, depending on the contents and the APO or FPO address to which it is sent.  Their postage costs alone run over $8,000 each month.  “We always have boxes packed up and ready to ship out, but often lack the necessary funds to send them.  We ask that any monetary contributions be made payable to:  “Postmaster” and sent to “Support Our Troops,” P. O. Box 7560, Wesley Chapel, Florida 33544.  One hundred percent of funds received go directly to cover the cost of postage” said Williams.

 Pasco County Democrats Clean

Tommy Town

Armed with trash bags, gloves, rakes and shovels, several local Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) members, Zephyrhills City Council member Luis Lopez, and local volunteers, along with homeowners in the area, joined Margarita Romo, founder of "Farmworkers Self-Help, Inc.' and Resurrection Mission in the Tommytown district of Dade City, FL, to clean up the streets and neighborhood.

Margarita runs Resurrection Mission to help kids stay safe in the neighborhood. She is currently seeking funding to buy another piece of property (currently known as a local drug den), to build an after school recreation and kitchen for local children to get a good meal in the evening. The turnout was great and an entire dumpster was almost filled with trash and debris from the streets. In addition, people had been coming by with their own trash from their yards, and tossing it into the dumpster. The Pasco Democrats have arranged to leave the dumpster in the area for the next week, so neighbors can continue to clean up. Pictured in no particular order are Michael Greenman, Michael Ledbetter, Beverly Ledbetter, Diane Parker of the East Pasco Democratic Club, Matt Murphy, Margarita Romo, Alison Berke Morano, chairperson of the DEC and Zephyrhills Councilman Luis Lopez. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM: ZFD Fire Marshal Kerry Barnett

Zephyrhills Fire Rescue Sends $9107.38 to Charleston South Carolina Firemen’s Fund

On June 17th, 2007 our Nation once again was reminded how dangerous the fire service profession can be as nine Charleston South Carolina firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice as they were battling a large sofa warehouse fire.  They have answered their final alarm as they were laid to rest.  A memorial service was conducted on Friday June 21st in which thousands of firefighters in over 200 fire apparatus paid their respects.  Zephyrhills Fire Rescue members honored them also that same day by standing at intersections along Gall Boulevard with a boot in hand, asking for citizens to help support their quest to help the families of those heroic firefighters.  The citizens responded by giving over $9000.00.  Zephyrhills Fire Rescue would like thank the community for their support along with Zephyrhills Volunteer Fire Rescue, Inc. and Zephyrhills Professional Firefighters, who also donated funds from their own accounts.  Fire rescue would also like to thank “Signs by Tina” for donating their time and the material in making the signs used to help collect the money.  Though there will never be enough money to replace what those families lost, however it is hopeful that the fund established will help replace the monetary loss they will suffer.  Hopefully it will help start the mending process, pay their bills and give their children an education.

As an honor to the Charleston firefighters and firefighters across our great Country, I ask everyone to pray for those families as I close with this poem that was left in front of the charred warehouse by an anonymous author called…

 To Those That Remain…

Your day started out well, And ended very bad.

It’s ok to be upset, It’s alright to be sad.

You lost your brothers, Son, fathers, and friends.

There’s no one to blame, But the fire in the end.

We all have been changed, We will never be the same.

Let us NEVER forget, Those 9 lives, faces and names.

 So let us all remember…

You fireman are special, You’re definitely one of a kind.

The rest of us know, Danger is never far from your mind.

But when you get that next call, And jump out of bed.

Know you’re not alone, You have 9 angels instead.

This year 57 firefighters have lost their lives.  Anyone wishing to help support the families of the fallen firefighters may send a donation to:

City of Charleston Firemen’s Fund

PO Box 304 Charleston, SC  29402

If you wish to send a card of condolence, it may be sent to:
