Remember the happy moments from your childhood when a grown up showed you how to fly a kite, build a sandcastle, or took you out for ice cream and listened to your dreams?   Those moments from childhood are magical… and now Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay is seeking volunteers in Pasco County to help share magical moments with children.   Volunteers play and share everyday experiences with a child—in fact, our volunteers often tell us the experience changes their lives too, not just the child’s!

           Mentoring Options We have more than one type of program to accommodate the busy lifestyles of many of our volunteers.  In our Traditional Program, you are paired one-on-one with a kid and spend a couple of hours a week together.  They spend time performing everyday activities, such as riding bikes, going to the park or the library or doing something as simple as washing the car or renting a movie.   Our Bigs in Schools Program takes just one hour a week which allows even the busiest people to become a Big Brother or Big Sister.  “Bigs” are paired with a child and they meet with the child at school or at an after-school center.  

  Who can be a volunteer? Our volunteers are everyday people with a variety of backgrounds.  From students to retirees, to stay at home parents to career fast-trackers.  Almost anyone can be a good Big Brother or Big Sister.  Email: lutzpatriots@aol.com.....The Lutz Patriots show up every Friday afternoon to wave the American Flags and promote patriotism.  They send care packages to soldiers who are serving overseas that don’t get much support from anyone else.  Chaplains overseas inform the group of soldiers who are alone or don’t receive mail.  The Florida hurricanes have hurt their donations but the soldiers are still over there serving.  They are preparing packages to send to some Marines who were in Afghanistan then came home for two months and returned to Iraq where they are out in the field searching for insurgents. Tallahassee at the inauguration of Charlie Crist called "Charlie's Angels"
in recognition of our new governor. The club will be doing fund raising for
domestic violence survivors. A number of ladies met at "Catchers" in Port
Richey and elected the officers on Tuesday and they are as follows:

East Pasco Shooting Stars

             A developmental girls basketball program will begin this spring at Zephyrhills High School.  It is a Youth Basketball of America program called East Pasco Shooting Stars. It is for girls from grades 3 on up. There will be two divisions  -- an elementary division and middle school division. The elementary league and a middle school league will begin in March and run through April.  Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays with games on Saturdays. This is not a recreation league.  In order to be eligible to play in the games, players must attend practices.

 The program will be coached and administered by Zephyrhills Girls JV Basketball Coach Dale Palmer along with Chucky Daniels and Lee Beville.  The major goals of the program will be to develop a greater interest in girls basketball, develop competitive teams to play in YBOA sanctioned tournaments, and develop players for the middle school and high school programs in East Pasco County. Signups will be held at the Zephyrhills High School Activities Center on February 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 11am to 2 pm.  Cost for the program will be $40.00.  For additional information call Dale Palmer at 788-1686.
