Athlete’s Who Care put on their 2007 Tri Fever & Babes & Bums Triathlon on August 4.  Over 400 participants showed up on a beautiful hot sunny day to compete in running, bicycling, and swimming at the Land O’ Lakes Rec Center Complex.  The group worked in conjunction with the Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department, the Pasco County Sheriffs Office, Emergency Services, and local Civic and Community Organizations.  They offered a series of four Triathlons, aimed at both the elite and weekend enthusiast. The family-oriented festivities kicked-off at 7:00am with a traditional “Sprint” & “Relay” Triathlon consisting of a 3.1 mile run, 10 mile Bike and 1/8 mile pool swim that was open to all ages.  That was followed by a series of two “Tri-Fever” courses, which have varying distances based on age.  Those two events were geared toward novice and first-time triathlon entrants, and focused on fitness and enjoying the experience, rather than competition.  The 9:00am course for children “7-10 years” of age and “Parent/Child” division, included a 1mile run, 3mile bike, and 50yd pool swim in the county’s community pool.  The 10:00am event included a “11 to adult” division, comprised of a 1mile run, 5 mile bike & 100yd swim.  The event could not have happened without lots of volunteers.  Thanks to several early sponsors, the organizers were able to purchase the required insurance policy and attain sanction from the prestigious US Triathlon Association.  Event organizer Val Thompalus and her committee did a great job planning for all the participants.  Athletes Who Care are proud to welcome the Land O' Lakes Rotary Club who will make up the 2008 Triathlon Executive Board

He helped guide swimmer Greta Bernosky, of San Antonio, out of the pool so she could get her final time after her run, bike ride, and swim. 

Tori Thomopalos_9636-p…Nine year-old Tori Thomopalos, of Land O’ Lakes, placed first in the Female Age 9 Division with a time of 23:52 at the 2007 Babes & Bums Triathlon put on by Athlete’s Who Care on August 4 at the Recreation Center in Land O’ Lakes. 

Val Thomopalos_9375-p…Val Thomopalos, of Land O’ Lakes, was the organizer for the 2007 Babes & Bums Triathlon put on by Athlete’s Who Care on August 4 at the Recreation Center in Land O’ Lakes.  She worked hard all year, and along with her committee, did a fantastic job of organizing the over 400 participants who came from near and far.

Jack Klump_9474… Jack Klump and his mother Missy Henk, of Lutz, placed fifth in the Tri Fever Parent/Child Ages 11 + with a time of 35:47 at the 2007 Babes & Bums Triathlon put on by Athlete’s Who Care on August 4 at the Recreation Center in Land O’ Lakes. They had to run one mile, bike five miles, and swim 100 yards in the pool.

Jill Martino_9560-p…Jill Martino, of Lutz, placed first in the Female Ages 30-34 Division with a time of 1:00:45 at the 2007 Babes & Bums Triathlon put on by Athlete’s Who Care on August 4 at the Recreation Center in Land O’ Lakes.

Johnny Blues_9578…Johnny Blues, of Lutz, placed second in the Male Ages 45-49 Division at the 2007 Babes & Bums Triathlon put on by Athlete’s Who Care on August 4 at the Recreation Center in Land O’ Lakes. He had a time of 58:57.
