Greetings TAB Members and Teen Volunteers!

**We are closed THIS Tuesday, 11/11, for Veteran's Day, so there is no TAB meeting this week.  The next Teen Advisory Board meeting is Tuesday, 11/25, from 6-7pm.  We will be talking about the lock-in events and food, the gaming nights, and the movie night for December, as well as going over the holiday program stuff.**

Thanks to all of you that volunteered for the Flapjack Festival last weekend.  We signed up a ton of new library cards and made over $60 on our basket drawing.  We have fewer events now that we are going into the holiday season, but there is still plenty to do.  We still need more acts for the Teen Talent Show THIS Friday, 11/14, from 6-9pm, but we only have a few spots open.  You can enter solo or in a group up to 5.  Just about any talent is acceptable.  Winners will get a $50 Hot Topic Gift Card for 1st place, $25 for 2nd, and $10 for 3rd.  Call me at 813-929-1214 to sign up!  Everyone else is welcome to come watch and eat free snacks.  We have a 16+ Video Game Night on Friday, 11/21, from 6-9, and you can come try out our new Guitar Hero World Tour game and gear.

**Our big announcement is the John Gold CD Release Party and Battle of the Bands Kickoff (whew, big name) that is coming up NEXT Saturday, 11/22, from 6-10:30pm.  Local artist John Gold and several other bands will be playing a FREE concert here at the library as we start our promotion for next year's Rockus Maximus: Battle of the Bands.  This is the first chance that bands can register for the Battle of the Bands.  Once we hit 8 bands registered, that is it, so this is the best chance to get a spot.  I fully expect the roster to be full within a week, so make sure to tell any teen bands you know to show up for this concert too!

Land O Lakes Library Teen Event Schedule - Volunteers are always needed for setup, cleanup, and to run the events!

**Wednesday, November 12, 6-7pm - Tween Book Blasters - This is our new tween book discussion club for ages 9-12.  Come talk about the latest in popular fiction for the tween set.  We will go over books from the Sunshine State list and other similar popular collections.  Bring your little brother or sister!  Think the event name is stupid?  Good!  Come discuss that with us at the event, too, and enjoy free snacks and soda.

**Friday, November 14, 6-8pm - Teen Talent Show - Register and show off your best talent(s) to an adoring crowd.  Winning contestants will receive gift cards and endless glory!  Even if you don't want to enter, you can still come and watch the competition and enjoy free snacks and drinks.  Whee!

**Friday, November 21, 6-9pm - 16+ Video Game Night - Anyone 16 and older is welcome to join us for a free video game night with Halo 3, Bioshock, Guitar Hero 4, Rock Band 1 & 2, DDR, Taiko Drum Master, Wii games, and more.  Free snacks and drinks will also be available.

**Saturday, November 22, 6-10:30pm - Battle of the Bands XII: Rockus Maximus Retro Kick-off Party Featuring John Gold and many other artists - Join us for a FREE concert with food and drinks and witness the release of John Gold's latest full-length CD.  This is our kickoff for Battle of the Bands XII and the first time any bands can register to be a part of the Battle running from January to March.  This is one of our bigger events of the year to celebrate the start to celebrate the BIGGEST event in the Pasco County Library System... Battle of the Bands!

Call me, e-mail me, or visit the library if you need anything or just want to talk.  Also if anyone out there is receiving this and no longer wants to be on the mailing list, please let me know....P.S ...Sara Barboza insists that I say "Hullo" from her on this newsletter.

Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus

Pasco’s  ORIGINAL Battle of the Bands!

Rock out with the Pasco County Library System at Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus on  Friday, March 28, 2008 at Crews Lake Park  in Shady Hills. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., the eight qualifying bands will each perform for 25 minutes with each set including at least 2 original songs. Different genres of music will be represented. The bands will be judged on stage presence, vocals, songwriting, and general musicianship.

In addition to the live band competition, we’ve added something new this year. We have video/online documentaries of each participating band on the library’s MySpace website where bands are competing for your votes for best online presence. Eight weekly episodes will be posted on MySpace TV enabling anyone in the world to watch the bands and vote for their favorite! There will be a winner for each episode and an overall champion will be declared at the end of the contest. Go to the teen page on the library’s website, pascolibraries.org; the teen blog; or www.MySpace.com/pascolibraries to view all the episodes and to vote for your favorite band! More than 2,000  votes have been tallied in the first week with many of those votes coming from around the world: United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Canada, and Brazil. One vote even came from a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Check out the online competition and get in your votes for your favorite band!
