Speaker Newt Gingrich Rally before debate in Tampa

Newt Gingrich, riding a big victory in South Carolina, got more good news Monday before appearing at a rally of supporters in Tampa. A new Rasmussen poll put Gingrich in the lead in Florida with 41 percent of the vote. Mitt Romney, who led some polls in Florida by more than 20 points just a few weeks ago, now sits at 32 percent.

Gingrich, speaking for about 20 minutes Monday, called Romney's latest attacks "desperate" and "baloney." He told the crowd he expects to hear more of it from Romney at Monday's nationally televised debate at the University of South Florida.

"If you've been campaigning for six years and you begin to see it slip away, you get desperate," Gingrich said.
