Pasco County Fire Rescue:

Pasco County Fire Rescue was recognized by Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point at an appreciation luncheon on October 14th for its response to the hospital-wide evacuation of all 225 patients on the night of August 31st. The hospital was struck by lightning during a powerful thunderstorm ahead of approaching Tropical Storm Hermine that ultimately caused a complete loss of both primary and backup electrical power to the entire facility. Over the next seven hours, nearly four-hundred public safety responders, hospital staff, 911 dispatchers, and volunteers would safely evacuate and transport all 225 patients to other hospitals all over central Florida. Utilizing flashlights and stairwells, patients were moved one-by-one starting with the most critical being evacuated first. Even in the most extreme of operational variables, the teamwork displayed by all was nothing short of incredible. As a gesture of its profound appreciation, and in addition to recognizing each responding agency individually, Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point made a donation of $50,000 to the Pasco County Fire Rescue Amador J. Gonzalo Training Center. The department expresses its deepest gratitude and is delighted to have Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point as a community partner as we collectively strive to ensure a safer community. Fire Chief Scott Cassin, Division Chief Shawn Whited, Acting Deputy Chief of Operations Tim Reardon, and Deputy Chief of Administration Andrew Fossa (not pictured), along with County Commissioner Jack Mariano, were on hand to accept the donation from hospital CEO Shayne George.

The event was located at Rao Musunuru, M.D. Conference Center, Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, 14100 Yosemite Drive, Hudson, Fla. 34667.
