Cypress Creek Ice and Sports Complex of Wesley Chapel is Unveiled to the Community

Cypress Creek Ice and Sports Complex of Wesley Chapel Developer Gordie Zimmermann impressed the crowd that included Pasco County Commissioners Jack Mariano, Kathryn Starkey, Pat Mulieri, Ted Schrader and Henry Wilson along with Florida State Senator Wilton Simpson, Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber President Jeff Novotny, Hockey team members from Wiregrass Ranch High School, Mitchell High School and representatives from the University of South Florida whose Hockey team is thinking about playing there in future. The crowd was electric with excitement as TV cameras from all of our regional media outlets trained their lenses on the unveiling of the design for Florida’s largest ice skating facility and the announcement of plans for a 120 room hotel adjacent to the ice rinks. Pasco County Commission Chairman Jack Mariano said the facility will provide recreational ice for local skaters and will attract competitors from all over the world. “Two rinks would have been great. Three rinks would have been phenomenal,” said Mariano. “But with four rinks and everything else you’re putting in here, everybody in the world is going to want to come here to play.”

“We are getting calls now from folks trying to make reservations for tournaments, they want to hit the ice this fall.” said Zimmermann. The new Cypress Creek Ice and Sports Complex would cover over 150,000 square feet with four full size skating rinks including one Olympic sized hockey rink and two smaller rinks. One multipurpose pad would give the complex flexibility to cater to sports like basketball and tennis or even dog shows, conventions and especially High School Graduations that are currently held outside the County. The 13 acre site at the intersection of Interstate 75 and State Road 56 was purchased for $2.6 million dollars. Standing next to his high school classmate, former Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup winning Captain Dave Andreychuk, developer Gordie Zimmermann said the $20 million Cypress Creek Ice & Sports Complex may be freezing ice as soon as next year. On the development team was Jeff Novotny from American Consulting, John Hagen and John Walsh from Pasco County Economic Development Council Inc., and the Pasco Tourism Council, Deborah Tamargo from ROI Commercial Property Brokerage Inc., Keith Appenzeller from King Engineering, Mark Jonnatti from Jonnatti Architecture, Skinner Brothers Realty Co. and Michael Slater from Triad Consultants.
