Mission of Mercy, Tampa Bay Dental Care for the Underserved at Florida State Fairgrounds

Wednesday, Mar 26, 2014 | On Target Page:
Florida's inaugural Mission of Mercy is officially done. Months of sweat and tears have culminated in a huge success! Over 1600 patients, more than 8700 procedures performed, and over $1.14million in services rendered in the course of two days. Even though we have a quantifiable number as a measure of success, what really mattered were the tears of gratitude, the smiles from patients that can finally have the relief from pain, and the huge grin from ear to ear of those who finally feel confident to smile again. This would not have been possible without the blood sweat and tears of all the volunteers! I am so proud of our profession! Robin Nguyen

TThere is nothing like it! Dr. Amanda from Suncoast Pediatric Dentistry in Land O’Lakes. The kids at the event loved seeing Dr. Amanda! Helping out were Amy from Metz Ortho, crowd control extraordinaire! We were among 1000s of volunteers! With Dr. Zack from Wesley Chapel Dentistry! A strong advocate for those in need! With Dr. Melissa Grimaudo, Sonia, Dr. Joe Grimaudo from All Smiles Tampa Bay in Land o Lakes. Also Dr. Fred Grassin from Gulfcoast Endodontic Associates. A great team! — with All Smiles Tampa Bay at Florida State Fairgrounds. With Dr. Michael Pikos, he was the lead oral surgeon Friday morning. Mission of Mercy, Tampa Bay captured the passion of two days of absolutely free dental care to all who come leaves most volunteers and patients with a changed perspective on the goodness of mankind. “The largest free dental clinic in the world!” “A life-changing experience!” “For me, an experience of a lifetime!” “The greatest active charity in the Nation!” Thousands come, standing in snow calf-deep for hours, waiting in quarter mile lines in one hundred degree weather, sleeping outside entrances on below zero nights, all just to receive dental care. These are the underserved - those who cannot for whatever reason afford quality dental care. Their need has been defined at each and every MOM event held in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, or any of the many other states who have joined in along the way. The need is there and through the generosity of dental professionals, dental technicians, lay volunteers, community leaders and businesses across the country, and the charitable work of dental agencies and organizations throughout America, those needs are being addressed. Over the course of two full days, 300+ Dentists, Dental Specialists, Registered Dental Hygienists, and Physicians along with 1000+ support volunteers will descend upon the 40,000 sq. ft. Special Events Pavilion of the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa to treat between 1600-2000 patients!

North Carolina is a veteran at conducting MOM events. Check out their video below: http://www.ncmom.info/index.php/about-us/video
