Lutz, Land O Lakes Lions Club 2nd Annual Tree Planting took place at Conner Preserve

Wednesday, Feb 12, 2014 | On Target Page: Land O'Lakes, Lutz

The Lutz Land O Lakes LLLL Lions Club 2nd Annual Tree Planting took place at Conner Preserve on Saturday, February 8, 2014. The Lutz Boy Scout & Cub Scout Troop 12, GFWC Lutz-Land O Lakes Women’s Club, Lions Club MD35-I District Governor, 1st & 2nd Vice District Governor all assisted with the project. There was a total of 35 plus two land managers from Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).

The weather forecast looked gloomy and rain was in the forecast, but that did not deter the group from planting the 2000 Long Leaf Pines purchased by SWFWMD. Instruction on the planting were provided and the planting started by 9:45 am. At 12:15 the last tree was planted. When the planting was completed, everyone enjoyed a cookout and socializing. The rain clouds were all around us and as we left it started to rain. All in all it was a great day for a great project.

The 2,980-acre Conner Preserve was acquired by Southwest Florida Water Management District for the preservation of natural Systems. A Special Thank You goes out to all that participated to make this project a success including the generous donations of shovels from Tibbett’s Lumber Company and 5 gallon buckets from Sherwin William Paint Company from Land O Lakes.
