PROFESSIONAL FISHING TEAM “TEAM GREENPRO” LADIES TEAM PLACES TOP TEN IN 2009 PRO TARPON TOURNAMENT

The Professional Tarpon Tournament kicked off their series event in Boca Grande, FL this week with their annual Ladies Day Tournament.

LUTZ Residents Heather Ricks, Melissa Tramontana, and Melissa Blakey proved to be contenders as they landed the 84 pound Tarpon hooked midway through the three hour event. Heather Ricks, a certified nurse in Tampa battled rough waters as she wrestled to keep her fish from swimming into other competitor lines. At one point, Ricks was on her knees struggling to keep her line clear from other Lady Anglers also fighting potentially winning fish. Ricks wasted no time in getting her fish boat side so First Mate Graham Taylor and Team Captain Robert Tramontana, also of Lutz, could size up the approximate weight of her fish. In this event, only one fish per event can be brought to the scales for weigh in and a decision must be made quickly by the team as to whether the fish has the ability to hold a spot on the Leader Board. The decision to weigh in was made based on the two fish that had previously been weighed in and the fact that the bite had been slow all morning and could taper off as the event was winding down.  Melissa Tramontana, the youngest member of the team and Melissa Blakey, a USF Environmental Science student along with Ricks, had a credible top ten finish and produced a respectful end to their event this year. Watch SUN Sports Network for the televised event that will begin airing in July 2009. The Ladies want to thank their Sponsors, GreenPro Lawncare and Hiatts Watch Repair of Lutz and Extreme Graphics of Oldsmar.  To follow the team as they compete, please visit www.angler.shutterfly.com.

Pro Tarpon Tournament

Team Bluewater had a heartbreaking day on Saturday when Fishing Guide Graham Taylor hooked the teams first tarpon of the Championship tournament just after 7am but lost it 20 minutes later as the tarpon weaved his way back into the pod of thick fish and was able to break the line. An hour later, Steve Lewis hooked a tarpon that he fought for a little over a half hour and had the fish close to the boat as the team, consisting of Team Captain Robert Tramontana, Charter Capt Graham Taylor, Adam Denacourt, Matt Tramontana and Steve Lewis all of Lutz and Land O Lakes tried desperately to lunge for the fish off the front of the boat and take it to the weigh in scale. Unfortunately, as the fish broke the surface, Steve’s line caught the side of the boat and snapped. With about two hours left in the tournament, Adam Denacourt hooked a healthy fish that pulled the team out of Boca Grande Pass and made a beeline for the shoreline and barnacle covered docks and piers. As Team Captain Robert Tramontana carefully maneuvered his 22’ Pathfinder in between dock supports and obstacles as he followed the fish that could put them on the Leader Board, Adam Denacourt fought hard to keep the fish away from the dock supports. After weaving his boat through multiple residential docks which the PTTS crew called “amazing,” Adam’s 160+ lb fish broke loose after breaking the line on a final dock support that was the last one standing before the fish would’ve headed back into open water. With only minutes left in the tournament, there wasn’t enough time left to hook fish that would’ve given them enough combined weight to place in the top 5 for the day. A disappointing day for the Team but an admirable effort by all the young Anglers as they continuously hooked and fought fish throughout the day. The Professional Tarpon Tournament airs on SUN network and WFN beginning July 3 so be sure to tune in for great fishing action by Team Bluewater. If you would like to book an Inshore Charter while there is still time to catch monster tarpon, call Capt Robert or Capt Graham Taylor at 813-323-4051 or 363-4244. TEAM BLUE WATER WEIGHS IN!

Lutz~Story by Sheila Tramontana

Team Bluewater which consists of young Lutz and Land O Lakes residents Team Captain Robert Tramontana, Fishing Guide Graham Taylor, Adam Denacourt, Matt Tramontana and Sponsor from Bluewater Fishing Supply Steve Lewis just completed competing in week 3 of the televised Professional Tarpon Tournament being held in Boca Grande. Going into Week 3, these young men were tied for 14th place and eligible for the Jim Beam Tarpon Championship Tournament to be held over Fathers Day weekend. After losing a fish hooked by Adam Denacourt, Team Captain Robert put the team on another healthy pod of fish and within minutes, Team Sponsor Steve Lewis had a “fish on” and the fight began! After battling the fish for about 20 minutes and viewing its size, even though it was a lighter fish, the decision was made to take it to the scales hoping it would hold out in the top 5 and get a little “air” time for the Sponsor. It stayed on the Leader Board with a 100 lb weigh in until the final 30 minutes of the Tournament when it was bumped off the board. Before the end of the day, all team members had hooked up and added 250 points to their 400 points from weeks one and two and will head into their final fishing weekend Sunday June 8 before the Championship Cup. Watch for Team Bluewater in the Lutz 4th of July Parade and at various special appearances around the community.

Fishing Report – April 2008

The spring bite started with good catches of snook and redfish.  Bait has moved onto the flats and the fish were cooperating very nicely.  Redfish are starting to school and are feeding especially good on the higher tides.  On a recent trip with Mark, Bruce, and Adam we caught about 12 or so reds with only three in the slot and the rest being oversized.

Just when you think all is going well, we had a cold front move through and drop the water temperatures to below 70 degrees.  This did not seem to affect the redfish; however the snook did not want to cooperate as well.  This past weekend, we were able to catch about 50 redfish with most being oversized.  2 of the reds that we caught were beasts; one being 13-1/2 lbs and the other being 12-1/2 lbs.

Looks like the weather will continue to stay nice, but be careful of strong winds as the bay can become rough very fast.  If you get out, always remember to enjoy the day even if the fishing is not good and respect the other fisherman on the water.
