Click >>> Here
Kids play on their new playground, Connerton Cove, located in the open green field next to the Rose Cottage Welcome Center. Connerton Cove marks a very personal addition to the community. Connerton parents and kids helped design their custom Learning Structures playground, adding unique touches like telescopes and portholes to go along with a pirate-theme. Pirate Dennis 4 has fun atop of Connerton Cove, a one-of-a-kind playground built and designed by Connerton residents, that officially openned with a pirate party Saturday, Jan. 12 in Connerton. Residents and volunteers used donated materials to construct the unique playground they helped design. Learning Structures, a company specializing in community-built playgrounds, coordinated volunteers and helped them complete the project. “The playground fits into Connerton’s unique, natural motif,” said resident Joe Hartman, who helped build the playground. “That the playground was built, not just bought, makes it more special.” Vinny Breault, another resident volunteer, said he enjoyed getting to know his neighbors while creating this state-of-the-art playground that will be used by Connerton families to come. Pete Costanza from Costanza Homes, one of Connerton’s homebuilders, recommended Connerton pair up with Learning Structures to build a playground. “Connerton is very family oriented and building a Learning Structures playground seemed like a great activity for the community,” he said. Building Connerton Cove was also a chance for the community to express its originality. According to Bryan Gifford, the project’s resident community chair and a volunteer builder, “the playground demonstrates how unique living in Connerton is.” He felt rewarded as a school bus drove by and the children inside cheered at the sight of the playground being erected. Connerton provides many other community activities for all members of the family, such as wine tasting events and walking clubs for adults and the Connerton Kid’s program for children. Jon Liles, Connerton’s activities director, organizes various events to keep the whole community engaged. The community-built playground is one such activity that will also become an enjoyable amenity for Connerton’s families and future residents. The Connerton Cove site will be used for themed parties, arts and crafts, and other community events, especially for Connerton’s younger children. Publix and Smith Family Homes each provided a team of volunteers to help build the playground. Publix, Hungry Harry’s and Christo’s Restaurant also donated food to the volunteers. Land
O' Lakes Moose Lodge fundraiser to send packages to
troops
The Land O’ Lakes Moose Lodge, located on US 41 in Land O’ Lakes, hosted a community wide event to show support for our men and women overseas on September 14. It was inspired by the Red Friday Shirt movement. The Red Friday shirt designed and sold by the local lodge, bears the graphic of a moose proudly carrying the American flag with the caption, “ the Moose Supports Our Troops!” on the back and “Red Friday” on the front. All profits from the shirt sales are used to fund the cost of mailing care packages to our troops. The group photo of the Moose Lodge/Chapter members and their guests from the community was taken not only for the local paper but also to send to the Moose International Magazine in hopes of encouraging other Moose Lodges across the USA to do the same thing. The festivities of the day included a visit from the Florida Blood Services Bloodmobile (20 units were donated), care package donation barrels, a chicken dinner, karaoke, a live band, and an auction. Susan Poynter, Activity Director of the Baldomero Lopez State Veterans Nursing Home and active duty Sgt. Eric Garcia were the two invited speakers. The day was supposed to be a great day for the Moose Lodge but an hour before the festivities were to begin, the members were notified that their brother Lee Johns had been murdered at his auto salvage yard. Johns had intended on attending the event but his life was brutally cut short. The Moose would like to thank Faith Jordan-Masella, of www.LandOLakesFLA.com, for coming out to take the photo, The Laker for running the event, the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce for including their event in their monthly newsletter, and the community for making Red Friday such a successful event. THE MOOSE SUPPORTS OUR TROOPS! GOD BLESS THE USA!!!
