Remembrance Memorial Service

at Loyless Funeral Home

John Loyless (from left), of the Loyless Funeral Home in Land O’ Lakes, put on the 7th Annual Remembrance Service on December 12 for families they served this past year who lost loved ones.  This is done to help them get through their first Christmas Holiday.  He is pictured with Kim and Bob Singerman, of Lutz, who provided music.  The Reverend Dewey D. Huffstutler, of the Land O’ Lakes Church of God, spoke to the standing room only funeral home and read poems “My First Christmas in Heaven”, “When Sorrow Comes”, and “They Are Gone”.  He encouraged them to let others help them in the process.  Everyone sang Silent Night while holding candles and each family received a memorial tree ornament.  Refreshments were served after the service.   Photos of this event by Faith Jordan-Masella of www.LandOLakesFLA.com.

Pasco-Baldomero Lopez State VA Nursing Home wins Gold Seal Award for Second Year in a Row

..6375...The Baldomero Lopez State VA Nursing Home has won the Gold Seal Award for Second Year in a Row.  The prestigious award was presented on November 17 at the Home in Land O’ Lakes.  Participating in the ceremony are (from left): Aide to Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite, Erin Stacy, Executive Director FDVA Rocky McPherson, Chair of Gold Seal Panel Barbara Hengstebeck, Homes Program Director FDVA Greg Puckett, Homes Program FDVA Joanne Cox, Administrator Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’ Nursing Home Rebecca Yackel, and Pasco County Commissioner Pat Mullieri.  6380...The various Teams at the Baldomero Lopez State VA Nursing Home were an important part of the winning of the Gold Seal Award.  Representing different departments are (from left):  Activities Director Susan Poynter, Maintenance Department John Mitchell, Natures’ Coast Volunteers Fran Steeves, Dietary Manager Jackie Gorgen, Social Services Mary Robinson, Volunteer Jane Armand, Director of Nurses Susan Guthrie, Risk Manager Jan Odell, Hillsborough Sheriff’s Department Volunteers Sharon Richmond, Housekeeping Director Bill Corrick, and Administrator Rebecca Yackel.  The Gold Seal Award goes to only 1-2% of all the VA State Nursing Homes.   Homes Program Director FDVA Greg Puckett said, “to win this award one time is special, but to win it twice is exceptional”.  Photos of this and other events by Faith Jordan-Masella.

 On Saturday, November 11, the Executive Committee of the Pasco Democratic Party held their post election meeting at the Land O’Lakes Community Center. Chairperson Alison Morano wanted to thank everyone for their hard work in this election season. Democrats in Pasco elected a new County Commissioner and had an above average turnout of voters (49.4% in Pasco, compared to a state average of 46.1%). In addition to the victory of  County Commissioner Elect Michael Cox, a majority Pasco voters supported Stephen Gorham in the State Senate 10 race and a majority of State House 48 voters in Pasco County turned out for Zimmermann. Also, the Pasco Democratic Party just posted one of the most successful fundraising quarters in recent years. Will Weatherford Victory

 Sam Weatherford came home from China, to help his brother Will Weatherford, as his campaign manager, on a very successful but unique campaign. Weatherford’s name could not be on the ballot because of technicalities due to a hasty appointment by Gov. Bush of Representative Ken Littlefield. In two years, Weatherford will have a chance to use the Weatherford name without fear of confusing the voters. A victory party was held November 7th at Saddlebrook for friends, families and supporters.

I enjoy this too much.”  Land O’ Lakes resident Terry Sweasy had a great time with Ben and Liz Pumo at their Fifth Anniversary for the opening of Benedetto’s Ristorante Italiano.  Sweasy has been a loyal customer of  Pumo’s since before he opened the restaurant and had a dish named after her, Sea Bass Terry.  Toby Herrerea has served customers with a smile for over three years at Benedetto’s Ristorante Italiano.
