Chloe Lupo, of Freedom High School, is the new Miss
Pasco County Fair. She won the title in a very
competitive contest on February 21 at Dan Cannon
Auditorium. She sang “Crazy Dreams” for the talent
portion and her platform is Volunteerism-Just Get Up
and Volunteer. Jacqueline Urbuteit, a student at UF,
was crowned the 2009 Miss Pasco County, at the
pageant held on February 21 at Dan Cannon
Auditorium. She sang, “At Last” for the talent
portion of the pageant, and her platform is “Upward
Bound-Mentoring Children about the Importance of
Education.”

title of Teen Miss Heart of Florida at the pageant
held on February 20 at the Dan Cannon Auditorium.
Pasco Elementary’s Kayla Ortiz was crowned Tiny Miss
Heart of Florida. The pageant was held at the Dan
Cannon Auditorium.Kenzi Ennis, of Woodland
Elementary, was crowned Little Miss Heart of Florida

School, was crowned the 2009 Miss Heart of Florida
at the pageant held on February 20 at the Dan Cannon

won the title of Wee Miss Heart of Florida at the
pageant held on February 20 at the Dan Cannon
Auditorium. Nisha Gupta, of St. Anthony’s School,
was crowned Junior Miss Heart of Florida at the
pageant held on February 20 at the Dan Cannon
Auditorium. Woodland Elementary’s Taylor Tomberlin
was crowned Young Miss Heart of Florida at the
pageant held on February 20 at the Dan Cannon

Wrestlers Start Quest For Gold

Crunch time has officially arrived.
Wrestlers from
across Pasco County and the state begin their quest for championship
gold in Lakeland with the start of the FHSAA Wrestling Championships.
The district tournament is up first.
Sunlake will host the Class 1A-District 6 tournament, which includes
Gulf, Hudson, Pasco, Wiregrass Ranch and Zephyrhills. That tournament
will feature seven wrestlers who are ranked in the state. Sunlake's
Jarrett Baker (No. 3) has the highest ranking of anyone, according to
Scout.com's

The newly crowned Miss Kumquat, Andrea Apple, worked
her way through the large crowds at the Kumquat
Festival held in downtown Dade City on January 31.
..Athina Teicher, of Bishop McLaughlin High School,
served up lots of slices of Kumquat Pie for the
Catholic Women's Club of St. Anthony's Church. …
Bobby Gude, of Dade City, whose family has been
pioneers in the Kumquat growing industry, was kept

Amendment Club of America
hosted their first Women's Class for 2009. It was a
free class and all women were encouraged to attend.
President
of the club
John DiGaetano,
said "The
Ladies learned about the different types of
handguns, and how to handle and clean
them as well as the correct type of ammo to use."
DiGaetano
continued, "
The ladies really enjoyed the target and self defense
shooting. It
was our largest class ever. we had expected about 15
Women but 39 women showed up, and that's great. I
plan on having another class in a few months so I
will start taking names now of any women who want to
take this class, and all the classes are FREE."

Conner Preserve Grand Opening
The
District celebrated the grand opening of the Conner Preserve. The
event included a ceremony, guided hikes, model airplane
demonstrations, children’s activities, water quality monitoring
demonstrations and more. The District purchased the 2,980-acre
property in 2003 to preserve and restore this important natural
habitat. The preserve’s entrance is located approximately 3.5
miles east of U.S. 41 on State Road 52 in Pasco County.
Recreational opportunities
include bicycling,
bird-watching, equestrian,
hiking and picnicking.
Equestrians must obtain a free
day-use permit and carry proof
of a horse’s current negative
Coggins test. Camping will be
available in the future. The
preserve also has a model
airplane flying field, which is
managed by Bay City Flyers.
Portable restroom facilities are
located at the entrance and at
the model airplane flying field.
The preserve is open daily from
sunrise to sunset. For more

Power of hope on minds of many at east Pasco Martin
Luther King celebration
Forty years. That's how long the Bible said the
Israelites wandered the desert before settling in
the Promised Land. That's also the number of years
between the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. and the election of the nation's first
African-American president, Barack Obama. The
coincidence wasn't lost on the crowd of more than
500 who gathered Monday at At the Church of the
Living Christ. God could have gotten the people out
of the wilderness in two weeks, but he let them
wander because they weren't ready, the pastors
seated on the dais speculated. The same might have
been true with America's readiness for an
African-American leader.
Dade City police
investigating shooting homicide of Zephyrhills man By

Dade City Police Department investigators know what killed Thomas
William Flannery, 46, of Zephyrhills Jan. 3. Now they want to know who
and why.
Reports said that an officer heard a gunshot around 2 a.m. near railroad
tracks at Martin Luther King Boulevard and saw a car speed away heading
west.
After the vehicle ran off the road, through a field and hit a tree,
police and fire rescue personnel pulled the unconscious Flannery from
the car and found he had at least one gunshot wound to the torso.
He was taken to Pasco Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced
dead. Reports indicated the police believe the shooting might have been
drug related but Flannery, of 4447 Seaberg Rd., has not been arrested in
Florida.
Anyone with Information about the shooting is asked to call the police
