They were “In It To Win It”, which was the theme for this year, in the Miss Zephyrhills, Miss Friendly City, and Miss Zephyrhills Jaycees Outstanding Teen pageants Saturday night, March 15, 2008, at the Zephyrhills High School gymnasium, under the direction of Diane Kennedy (Miss Zephyrhills 1978) and Ruth Johnson, and was sponsored by the Zephyrhills Jaycees.  Greg First served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

Eighteen poised, polished, and very talented young ladies from Zephyrhills and the surrounding counties, danced, sang, twirled batons and also rifles, and clogged their way into the top overall placements in competition for three titles by the end of the night.  All three titleholders will advance to the state competition in July, at the Mahaffey Theater, in St. Petersburg, to vie for the titles of Miss Florida and Miss Florida Outstanding Teen for 2008.

Each of the divisions participated in several phases of competition, including an in-depth, personal interview, spontaneous on stage questioning, lifestyle and fitness active wear, a variety of entertaining talent presentations, and a very elegant evening gown display.

Five contestants vied for the Miss Zephyrhills 2008 title: Ashley Shannon, Jechante Hires, Brittany Monbarren, Chelsea Butts and Priscilla Avila.  Miss Zephyrhills 2008 was awarded to Brittany Monbarren, 1st Runner Up – Priscilla Avila, and 2nd Runner Up – Ashley Shannon.  The overall talent and overall interview awards went to Priscilla Avila.  Priscilla sang “The Star Spangled Banner” a cappella, bringing the crowd to their feet, while Brittany and Ashley also sang wonderful melodic renditions for their talent presentations.

Six contestants competed for the Zephyrhills Jaycees Outstanding Teen for 2008 title: Chloe Lupo, Anastasia Stroup, Adriana Brown, Caitlyn Eakley, Geanna Arnold and NaSha’ Smith.  Miss Zephyrhills Jaycees Outstanding Teen for 2008 was awarded to Chloe Lupo, 1st Runner Up – NaSha’ Smith, and 2nd Runner Up – Anastasia Stroup.  The overall talent and overall interview awards went to NaSha’ Smith.    NaSha’ performed an expressive, interpretive dance to “Forgive Me”, Chloe sang a lovely rendition of the Carrie Underwood song entitled “Jesus Take The Wheel”, and Anastasia performed a very bubbly, dramatic, theatrical dance to “I’m Cute”.

Seven contestants gave it their all for the title of Miss Friendly City for 2008: Leja Apple, Kari Sapp, Perianne Boring, Andrea Apple, Danielle Mueller, Ashley Ramsey and Darla Ehlinger.  Miss Friendly City for 2008 was awarded to Kari Sapp, 1st Runner Up – Andrea Apple, and 2nd Runner Up – Leja Apple.  The overall talent and overall interview awards went to Andrea Apple.  Andrea and Leja performed enthusiastic, toe-tapping, clogging dance routines, and Kari performed a vocal theatrical routine that was quite dramatic and expressive to “My New Philosophy”.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Zephyrhills High School Jazz Band under the direction of Russell Schmidt, Helen’s Baton & Dance Studio, Dance Experience, and the Dance Experience Explosion Performance Dance Team.

The on-stage interviews were conducted by the reigning 2007 titleholders, Devin Brooks, Miss Zephyrhills and Ashley Gibson, Miss Zephyrhills Jaycees Outstanding Teen, and Florida’s Outstanding Teen 4th Runner Up.

The contestants were escorted onto the stage for the evening gown phase of competition by the Jr. ROTC Cadets under the direction of Commander SFC Michael Smith:  Kyle Peters, Jonathan Griffith, Christopher Rosenkranse, Chase Thornton, Brian Barrington, Amber Mclemore, Steven Smith, Dylan Moss, Josh Levos, John Bowdon, Shadow Murphy, Brandon Mier, Tim Walls, Tony Alexander, Christina Wirth, Derick Powell, and Lloyd Canon.
