THE PASCO REPUBLICANS FOR VETERANS CLUB HAS SCHEDULED A MEETING FOR ALL VETERANS

 Pasco County: The Pasco Republicans for Veterans Club (PRVC) has scheduled a meeting for all veterans.  The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2009, 3:00 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4283 located at 12735 VFW Road, Dade City, FL 33525.  This is off of State Road 52 next to the Pasco County Fairgrounds.  This meeting is going to be informative to Veterans on many issues affecting their benefits and entitlements.  The board of the PRVC is working with elected officials to make sure that Veterans are well represented on all issues affecting them.  The PRVC meeting is opened to all Veterans to attend.  For more information on the meeting or the PRVC please contact the President of the PRVC, Burton Melaugh at (352) 206-9008 or the Secretary/Treasurer of the PRVC, Nita Beckwith at (352) 585-0200.

WHO - The American Cancer Society invites individuals who want to honor cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer to join its Relay For Life of Wiregrass.   

WHAT - The Relay For Life KICKOFF CELEBRATION is a time for friends, families, businesses, churches, organizations, cancer survivors and caregivers, and schools to get together and start the Relay For Life season.                       

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer.  At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

ZEPHYRHILLS- Street Life will perform at Main Street Zephyrhills’ Halloween Howl on Saturday, October 24 immediately following the conclusion of the children’s costume parade.   The band plays tunes from the 50’s to today’s hits in virtually all genres of music. Halloween Howl is an annual family-friendly street event which is hosted by Main Street Zephyrhills, Inc. on 5th Avenue in Downtown Zephyrhills.   This year’s festivities will take place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.  A Main Street-hosted Car Cruise-In will take place (from 4-8) concurrently with Halloween Howl in the Downtown Area.  Many local businesses will offer candy to trick-or-treaters.  Costumed super heros will be on hand to join in the fun.  Children can participate in the Halloween costume parade.  Throughout the celebration, the bandstand will showcase many talented performers who will presented to the crowd by the ever-charismatic and enthusiastic emcee Dr. Dr. Thayer of WZHR

Veterans' Day Groundbreaking for DAV Chapter #65

ZEPHYRHILLS - DAV Chapter #65 couldn’t have chosen a more fitting day to break ground for the organization’s new addition: Veterans’ Day on Wednesday, November 11, 2009!   The public is cordially invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. at the organization’s location at 5325 8th Street in Zephyrhills.  The National Anthem will be sung by local vocalist Ephraim Sprung.  3 ROTC cadets will present The Colors and two ROTC cadets will bear rifles.  The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited, an invocation will be delivered by a local pastor, and then several contractors and honored guests will don hardhats and will break ground for the new addition.

Pet Photo Halloween Costume Contest
 

Enter your favorite photo of your pets dressed up in their halloween costume.  Prizes will be awarded for most creative, funniest, and scariest.  Families can bring a 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 photo of their pet dressed in his or her favorite halloween costume to Central Pasco Veterinary Care, 17945 State Road 54, Lutz, FL 33558, 813-926-1126 starting on October 1st.  Photos will be displayed in our lobby to accumulate votes from guests and visitors.  On October 31st, our judges will award the winners in three categories: Scariest, Funniest, and Most Creative. The winners will receive a customized gift basket and published on our website. 
Honorable mentions from the voting ballots will also be published on our website.  (Not all pets will tolerate wearing a costume, so please don't stress them if they don't want to wear one)

Wesley Chapel High School Future Business Leaders of America is hosting  a pageant

The Wesley Chapel High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America is hosting  a pageant on Tuesday, October 27 from 7-9 pm at the Wesley Chapel Center for the Arts.  Any male or female student at Wesley Chapel High School may complete an application to compete in the pageant.  Fourteen couples will be selected as finalists for the pageant.  The FBLA will produce a calendar in November which will feature the winning calendar couple, and monthly couples selected at the pageant.  Tickets for the event are $3.  All proceeds from the pageant and calendar sales will go to the Wesley Chapel High School FBLA.  Community members are also needed to judge at the pageant.  Please contact Renee Owers at 813-794-8733 or rowers@pasco.k12.fl.us for more information.

Belk Fall Charity Sale on November 7 to Benefit Local Charities and Schools Charity representatives interested in taking part in this one-of-a-kind fundraising event should contact their local Belk store manager  Call 813-948-8555.   Spring Charity Sale raised more than $5 million for hundreds of nonprofits.  Belk’s Fall Charity Sale on November 7 will once again benefit local charities, schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the company’s 16-state market area. Belk’s previous Charity Sale, held May 2, 20The four-hour, in-store shopping event offers an excellent fundraising opportunity for participating organizations and a chance for customers to support worthwhile charities and take advantage of special discounts on purchases made during the event. 09, raised more than $5 million for hundreds of participating nonprofit organizations. In exchange for a $5 donation, customers will receive a ticket admitting them to the Charity Sale on November 7 from 6 to 10 a.m. and entitling them to merchandise discounts ranging from an extra 15 to 50 percent on purchases throughout the store, including special savings on rarely discounted brands. Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more at the event, and Belk cardholders will receive double Rewards points for card purchases. Participating local charities will sell the Charity Sale tickets in advance of the event and all proceeds from each $5 ticket sold will be retained by the charity. Support The Troops Inc. seeks donations for Christmas
WESLEY CHAPEL — Support The Troops Inc., located at 29807 SR 54 in Wesley Chapel, is collecting one-gallon clear plastic bags filled with candy, snacks, food, notes or anything nonperishable and non-liquid. The group is trying to collect 140,000 stuffed bags to send out to the chaplains at different bases for U.S. troops as Christmas gifts.The chaplains will distribute them at the appropriate time. Last year, Support The Troops was able  to ship 135,000 bags to 19 bases and two ships in forward deployed areas.The overwhelming response from the chaplains was,“that was the best Christmas they had ever had when they were deployed for both themselves and our troops,” according to Bob Williams, founder of Support The Troops. If you are involved in any size group, such as Sunday school classes, adult groups, civic organizations, or any business and would like to help with this project, it would be greatly appreciated,Williams said. Toiletry items should be bagged separately from food items.You can also include email addresses and return addresses of adults in the bags so that you may receive responses from the troops you have helped. In order for bags to arrive on time with the holiday mail, bags should be dropped off no later than the end of October. Land O’Lakes Grad Garrett E. Colon completes basic training

LAND O’LAKES — Marine Corps Private Garrett E. Colon, a 2004 graduate of Land O’Lakes High, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, S.C. The basic training course is designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Colon and fellow recruits began each day at 5 a.m.by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Colon spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments, which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-tohand combat and assorted weapons training. Colon and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values, honor, courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct. Colon and fellow recruits ended the training phase with “The Crucible,” a 54- hour, team evolution culminating in a ceremony where recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem.After the ceremony the recruits are addressed as “Marines” for the first time in their careers.

Former Gaither student attends basic training at US Air Force Academy
LUTZ — Former Gaither student Taeyoung Lee has entered basic cadet training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy. Lee is the son of Sung and Henna Lee of Oakmanor Drive in Tampa. He graduated from Gaither this past spring. The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year. The training prepares men and women to meet the rigorous mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets. Phase one involves personal in-processing, orientation and training in the fundamentals of being a cadet. Cadet trainees are prepared to adjust from civilian to military life and disciplines, and learn proper wear of the uniform, saluting policies and procedures. During phase two, cadets train outdoors living in tents, while learning to function in field conditions. Cadets apply and practice teamwork, cohesion and learn to deal with physically and mentally demanding situations. They also complete the obstacle, confidence, assault and leadership reaction courses, while also participating in a rescue mission termed “Operation Warrior.”

State Rep. Kevin Ambler (R-District 47) to discuss community issues with the Pasco Alliance of Community Associations (PACA).  State Rep. Kevin Ambler (R-District 47) will discuss community
issues at the Sept. 10 meeting of the Pasco Alliance of Community Associations (PACA).
The meeting is open to the public as well as to PACA members, and begins at 7 p.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, located at 5401 US 41, three miles north of SR 54. PACA is a nonprofit organization whose members include representatives from 75 of Pasco County’s homeowner associations, community development districts and condominium associations.PACA assists members by educating them on common issues and finding solutions to shared problems.

Pasco County teams up for Coastal Cleanup

 Join a group near you and help clean up Pasco County on Sept.19, from 8 a.m.to noon. “Groups are signing up every day,” said Jennifer Seney, Pasco County’s recycling co­ordinator.“We clean up all over Pasco County not just the coast. One of our largest groups is in Land O’ Lakes. They’ve been picking up trash every year for the past 17 years.” Last year, more than 20 groups with 1,800 volunteers fanned out across Pasco and picked up 17.76 tons of trash. Seney is look­ing for volunteers for this year’s cleanup and matching people up with an area teams. The Pasco County recycling department coordinates the Clean Up with help from Pasco Parks and Recreation. The national sponsor,The Ocean Conservancy,provides plastic trash bags and literature. 2009 Miss Central Pasco Scholarship Pageant

The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce 2009 Miss Central Pasco Scholarship Pageant will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009. The pageant will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Leonard Rd. The Miss Central Pasco Scholarship Pageant is open to girls ages 13 to 19 residing in Pasco and surrounding areas. The pageant is not-for-profit and has maintained a tradition for many years of empowering young women to achieve their personal goals by awarding scholarships. The pageant is scored on the following areas of competition: interview, casual wear, personal introduction and evening wear. The entry fee is $75.          The Land O’ Lakes Saturday Market will open for the first time on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Land O’Lakes Community Center. Local bake team to sell baked treats to raise money to end childhood hunger
The Land O’ Lakes Bake Sale Team is selling cookies, brownies, cakes and other treats on Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Hale Road, one block east of US 41. The sale is part of the Great American Bake Sale, an organization that has brought together millions of people across the country who pledge to be a key ingredient in ending childhood hunger by holding bake sales in their communities.  The Land O’Lakes bake sale will have raffles with chances to win prizes donated by local businesses.A bloodmobile from Florida Blood Service will be at the event for people to donate blood. Money raised through the sale will be used to ensure that American children living in poverty and at risk of hunger get the regular, healthy meals they need. Nationally, more than 12 million children are at risk of hunger. Since 2003,more than 1 million people have participated in bake sales, raising nearly $4 million to help feed American children.
