By Heather Tomasello
The Double Branch Elementary
PTA and school Principal Peggy Lewis are excited to
announce that the PTA has raised enough money to
fund the first phase of a playground for this new
school. “I especially want to say an extra big
thank-you to our students,” said first semester PTA
President Michelle Schemery. “Their participation
and generosity during our December Walk-a-thon was
wonderful.” The students raised $1,434.01 during
this event, making them the biggest single
playground sponsor. Other individual and business
sponsors contributed to the playground fund. The PTA
also held several fund-raisers and successfully
applied for matching funds from the Pasco County
school district to meet their budget of more than
$35,000 for the first phase of equipment, which
includes a covered tower, slides and rock climbing
wall. The PTA will continue to raise money for a second phase with other play equipment. “Hopefully the playground will be completed by early spring,” said Lewis. “It usually takes two years for a group to raise funds for a playground, so we did a super job!”
Heather Tomasello is a freelance
writer and owner/operator of The Goddard School, an
extended-day preschool slated to open Fall 2008 near the
north entrance of Meadow Pointe.
